Dr Caroline Murphy has worked in the cultural sector for over 25 years, with a range of experience in literature, performing arts and participatory cultural activity. Through her consultancy practice (1997-2014) Caroline worked with a wide portfolio of regional and national arts and cultural organisations, leading on the development of strategic initiatives, cultural programmes, and the design and implementation of impact assessment strategies. Caroline has held senior arts management and trustee roles with a range of cultural organisations, and has extensive experience of partnership working in the cultural sector. Her doctoral research focused on the pedagogy of creative writing and the positioning of writing and writers in educational policy. Caroline joined Northumbria University in 2014 to lead on the development of knowledge transfer between the University and the cultural sector. She works closely with a range of cultural partners to create new and collaborative approaches to research, teaching and learning, and public engagement. She has been a member of the New Writing North board since 2014.
