David Keenan wins the Gordon Burn Prize 2019

Posted by

We are thrilled to announce David Keenan’s novel For The Good Times as the winner of the Gordon Burn Prize 2019.

Set in 1970s Belfast, Keenan uses modernist prose and humour to an almost hallucinatory effect to explore one of the most controversial and inflammatory periods of history that is still in touching distance: The Troubles. David’s novel was selected by the judges AA Dhand, Gary Hume, Miranda Sawyer and Rachel Unthank from an incredibly strong shortlist of six writers, who read from their work and discussed the role of contemporary literature at the ceremony as part of Durham Book Festival.
