The Royal Court Theatre, Northern Stage and New Writing North proudly present public readings of nine new plays developed by Royal Court Writers’ Group: North.

In late 2017, we came together with The Royal Court Theatre and Northern Stage to create Royal Court Writers Group: North, a new writers’ group for theatre writers.

Royal Court Writers’ Group: North was open to playwrights based in the North of England, who applied through an open submission process. We were looking for writers who felt they would benefit from being pushed in their craft and the ambition of their writing for the stage. Over three months in 2018, the nine writers undertook sessions with leading UK playwrights Stacey Gregg, Emteaz Hussain, Alistair McDowall, Simon Stephens and Tom Wellsand developed their own work.

The first public readings of their plays took place at The Site, at The Royal Court in May 2018, and will be at Northern Stage in September 2018.  The readings at Northern Stage will be directed by Artistic Director Lorne Campbell and Associate Director Mark Calvert, Artistic Director of Live Theatre Joe Douglas and Selma Dimitrijevic of Greyscale.

Performances will take place from September 4th – 8th.
Tickets are available from Northern Stage here.
