Last night at Northern Stage, the first night of The Spark took place. Our new  event encouraged members of the audience to stand up and tell a true story on the theme of ‘The Argument’. Nine storytellers took part and the audience was treated to an array of real-life tales of men with axes, boyfriends with cooked dinners where they shouldn’t have been, dodgy kebabs in County Durham and in the case of the winner, an hilarious tale of a bouncing glass eye. Proceedings were overseen by our eminent host, comedian Gary Kitching of The Suggestibles.

The Spark’s second outing is at Hexham Book Festival in May when the theme is ‘True Love’ (inspired by the Royal Wedding no less). If you fancy a go, stories must be true and be no longer than five minutes  (and remember you can’t bring notes or prompts). For more information, click here.
