Crime Story

Crime Story is a unique biennial festival for crime writers and readers from New Writing North and Northumbria University. We commission a fictional crime and invite you to solve it with the help of the professionals.

Creative Writing

Take part in creative writing and editing sessions with top writers and editors. Free one-to-one surgeries with industry experts including literary agents and publishers are also available.

High profile authors

Crime Story launched in 2014 with a fictional crime written by Ann Cleeves. In 2016 Paula Hawkins wrote the crime scenario, which we worked to solve throughout the day. The festival closed with an exclusive author event with Paula discussing The Girl on the Train and her fascinating career.

We bring together crime authors with experts in a wide range of areas of criminology, as well as publishers, editors and agents. This exciting mix of delegates and speakers makes Crime Story an unmissable event for crime writers and readers alike. Throughout the day, experts will take you through the criminal investigation process to inform and inspire your writing and reading. Editors, agents and top writers are also on hand to give an insight into their industry and to lead creative writing sessions.
