Digital Literature Programme

Our new Digital Literature programme of training opportunities and events aims to build the digital skills and knowledge of writers in the North East. The programme encompasses a series of seminars and workshops and an intensive web development programme for a smaller group of selected writers.

The aim of the Digital Literature programme is to support writers to identify and learn about opportunities related to digital forms of production and distribution, to improve how writers create and manage their brands and professional profile online and to inspire new knowledge, projects and ideas through access to expert advice and peer-to-peer support.

The programme is produced by New Writing North as part of Creative Fuse North East, which means that we are able to offer the opportunities free of charge and in some cases support participants with a bursary to support engagement.

Digi_Writer

Digi_Writer is an open access seminar and workshop programme focused on helping writers to build their industry and business knowledge and to gain practical skills.

Each of the sessions will feature industry speakers and experts and will explore e-books, digital rights and contracts, audio, podcasts and social media management. These events are suitable for professional writers who are looking to expand their business skills as well as for emerging writers/producers/publishers who want to gain professional skills and understanding. These events are open to all writers in the North wherever they live and work.

Digi_Create

Digi_Create is a day-long conference that explores creative ways that writers are using digital technologies and distribution to develop their work and to engage with audiences. We will showcase projects and collaborations and explore how artists and industry professionals have developed, funded and launched new ideas. The event is suitable for professional writers who are looking to expand their business skills as well as for emerging writers/producers/publishers who want to gain professional skills, insights and understanding. This conference is open to all writers in the North wherever they live and work.

Digi_Transform

Digi_Transform is an application led, bespoke professional digital development programme for 15 writers, which will audit their existing digital profile and capabilities and provide them with access to a range of resources, support and mentoring to help them transform and/or build their online presence and enable them to grow their profile and their business.

The selected writers will receive a total of 12 hours of one-to-one professional development support (online/in person), will be professionally photographed and filmed, and will receive support to develop content for a new website and work alongside their peer group to co-create a new website design that they will then be able to develop a site for their work.

This element of the programme is only open to writers who are based within the North East Local Enterprise Partnership’s geographical area of focus, which covers the local authority areas of County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

Digi_Resources

Alongside the programme we plan to commission and host a bank of toolkits, advice and guidance materials that will form a new section of New Writing North’s current web resources for writers. This material will be developed over the summer and launched in autumn 2018. We will also be working with Mslexia to connect their Mslexia Max online community to a number of events so that we maximise the availability of information nationally and to writers who are not able to attend in person.
