Read Regional 2019 submissions

  • Read Regional 2019

Deadline for submissions: 3 May 2018

We are delighted to open the call for submissions for books to be considered for the 2019 Read Regional campaign.

Read Regional is run by New Writing North in conjunction with 23 library authorities in Yorkshire, North East England and North West England. Each year we select 10-15 new books by Northern authors and promote them widely through libraries and festivals. All participating libraries purchase bulk book orders and receive supporting marketing campaign materials. The authors visit libraries to give readings and to meet book groups. A comprehensive media and social media campaign supports the project.

Read Regional is a great way to launch new authors or to promote authors whose profiles you are looking to build. The campaign has run since 2008 and has supported authors including Alan Gibbons, Ann Cleeves, Chris Killen, Kim Moore and Mari Hannah. Included on the 2018 campaign are Chloe Daykin, Jenn Ashworth, DM Mark, Sarah Dunnakey, Jane Austin, Carmen Marcus, Antony Dunn, Polly Atkin, Kate Pankhurst, AA Dhand, Guy Mankowski and Richard Smyth.

For the 2019 campaign we welcome submissions of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, graphic novels, young adult and children’s books.

Books submitted must be by a writer who currently lives and works in the North of England. Unfortunately we are unable to accept self-published submissions. We will consider books published between June 2017 and December 2018.

The author must be available to participate in at least three events across the North between March and June 2019.

Books must be available for us to purchase for the campaign by December 2018. Ideally books will be in paperback; we will consider hardback books only in exceptional circumstances. We will negotiate purchase terms with individual publishers. Please send two copies of your book to Will Mackie, New Writing North, 3 Ellison Terrace, Ellison Place, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, NE1 8ST.
