Transform your illustrations and create characters from all walks of life in this picture book illustration workshop with award-winning author and illustrator Dapo Adeola.
Dapo will cover multiple aspects of children’s book illustration including colour, characters, composition and design in this practical and exciting interactive workshop, where you’ll also have the opportunity to receive feedback on your work.
Dapo Adeola is an award-winning illustrator and author based in Manchester. His books include Look Up! which won the Waterstones Children’s Books Prize. He was awarded Illustrator of the Year at The British Book Awards in 2022.

New Writing North and Children’s Books North recognise that talent is everywhere but opportunity is not. If you are unable to book a ticket for this workshop without financial help, we encourage you to apply for one of our five free bursary places. Bursary places are based on financial need and will be selected at random from valid applicants.
You are eligible for a bursary ticket if you are in receipt of Jobseekers’ Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Income Support, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Housing Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Asylum Support, or Universal Credit. If none of the above applies but you feel that you are still eligible, please get in touch.

This workshop has been curated by Children’s Books North Network, who connect and support published children’s writers, illustrators and publishing professionals living in the North West, North East, Yorkshire and Scotland. They focus on the importance of regional diversity in children’s books and the wider industry.
These events are programmed to mark the launch of the inaugural Children’s Books North Network Prize for aspiring picture book writers and illustrators based in the North of England, in partnership with New Writing North and funded by Arts Council England and Manchester Metropolitan University.
