New Writing North and Hachette Children’s Group are delighted to host a roadshow dedicated to supporting children’s writers at all stages of their careers as part of Sheffield Hallam Creative Writing Masterclasses. Join us for an evening of discussion and professional advice aimed at developing your practice and demystifying the publishing industry.

We’ll be joined by Hachette Children’s Group’s Georgina Mitchell (Editor) and Jenna Mackintosh (Editorial Operations Director) to offer advice on what to expect from a children’s publisher and the process of publishing a children’s book, and what they look for in a children’s book submission

After a short break, previous Hachette Children’s Novel Award winner Hannah Durkan and Hachette Children’s Group Marketing and Brand Director Naomi Berwin will offer insight for writers on profile building, marketing and building a successful writing career. Both panels will allow some time for Q&As.

The event will conclude with a networking session.

This event will be relevant for new, emerging and established writers with an interest in writing for children, and is part of the Northern Writers’ Awards. The Northern Writers Awards discover and support writers in the North of England, with a focus on supporting new work-in-progress. They offer a wide range of opportunities for writers at all stages of their careers, including publication, mentoring, manuscript assessment, writing placements, retreats and cash awards to buy time to write. The Hachette Children’s Novel Award is open for entries now (deadline January 12).

Tickets for this event are £10.
There are limited free places for Sheffield Hallam students. Students should reserve their seat through Eventbrite. You will need to show your Sheffield Hallam student ID on the door.
