Come and see us at London Book Fair 2024!

New Writing North is heading to the London Book Fair (LBF) this March and we’re excited for what’s in store – from hosting a headline event with actor and philanthropist, Michael Sheen, to sharing the full LBF experience with our next generation of publishing industry experts.

At 1.30pm on 14 March, writer Sunjeev Sahota and actor and philanthropist Michael Sheen – along with partners from our A Writing Chance project, which aims to open access to the writing industries for new and aspiring writers from working-class and lower-income backgrounds – will appear on the Main Stage.

We expect a lively and thought-provoking discussion on how we persist in moving the dial on access and representation in the creative industries; what the current landscape looks like to writers from a range of backgrounds; and how the sector can continue to make change.

Shortly after, at 1.45pm that day, in the English PEN Literary Salon, novelists Eliza Clark and Richard T Kelly will join our Senior Programme Manager, Rebecca Wilkie.

The panel will debate what it means to be a ‘Northern’ writer – whether such a label is inspiring or reductive; and how the cultural perception of the North might limit the scope of what we can write and get published.

We will be attending LBF with our MA Publishing students from this year’s postgraduate degree programme, which we deliver in partnership with Northumbria University and Hachette UK.

Experiencing LBF – a key event of the international publishing calendar – first hand is one of the features of our unique MA. Students will learn about what the event means to the industry, as publishers and agents come from across the globe to negotiate rights and sales.

They will also meet LBF organisers; attend seminars that explore some of the current challenges and hot topics within the industry; and soak up the exhilarating atmosphere of one of the world’s largest publishing events!

The following day will be spent with our MA Publishing partners Hachette UK, as students visit their offices in Victoria and gain an exclusive insight into working for a major international publishing house.

Keep an eye on our social media and blog for insights into the event, and if you are attending in person, do come and see us and say hello.

LBF takes place at Olympia London from 12-14 March 2024.
