Creative Writing Group for Teachers

Posted by

We are now recruiting for our fabulous Creative Writing for Teachers group for the new school year 2015-16. The group meets twice termly from 4.30 – 6.30 pm at The Lit and Phil in central Newcastle.

The sessions are led by professional and experienced writers to support you to develop your own skills as a writer, share ideas and reflect with like minded peers on your creative writing teaching, all in a relaxed and informal environment.

By taking part in writing workshops as participants, you can gain knowledge, confidence and tools to take back with you into the classroom.

You don’t have to have any writing experience, just enthusiasm! This year sessions will include flash fiction and short stories, children’s fiction, script writing and poetry.

"I’ve tried quite a few of the activities we’ve done with my class (Year 4) and they’ve had a huge impact. For example, they wrote their own ‘Bag of Lost Things’ poem and it generated conversations that led to a lot of SMSC work, displays and parental involvement. I would never have come up with the writing activities myself and they’ve engaged our pupils in a way that has been wonderful to see. New Writing North has given me ideas to share with staff and improve practice in our school generally" Primary School Teacher from 2012/3 group

“The teacher’s group is absolutely, totally beneficial for my pupils, myself as a writer and other students” Secondary School Teacher from 2014/15 group

“However tired I am after a day at school, the sessions always upift me and I come away feeling inspired and refreshed. It is also brilliant value for money.” Teacher from 2014/15 group
