Creativity for Mindfulness Workshop
Event information
Where: Online
Date: Friday 27 September
Time: 12-1pm
Cost: Free
Type: Writing Workshops
This one-hour mindfulness taster session explores the benefits of mindfulness for writers. It is suitable for absolutely anyone, including non-writers, would-be writers or people already practising mindfulness who want to know how it might enhance creativity.
Based on Danny Penman’s book Mindfulness for Creativity, the session will incorporate practical mindfulness exercises and will explore how mindfulness:
– Increases clarity of thought
– Decreases anxiety and stress
– Encourages ‘divergent thinking’ – bringing different/unique ideas to a problem you are trying to solve
– Supports resilience – a responsive, not reactive, state of mind with the confidence to follow creative thoughts
– Silences the inner critic
– Dissolves habitual negative thinking patterns
No prior knowledge is required. This is a taster session, and will include signposting for those who wish to use the exercises again, or explore mindfulness further after the session.
Carolyn Sims is a mindfulness tutor and MBCAP accredited counsellor and has run courses for the NHS and privately. Having practised mindfulness since around 2011 and worked for the NHS for 10 years, Carolyn took a career break to focus on writing for children. After seeing the benefits mindfulness can bring to your writing process, she is keen to share tips and techniques with other writers.
