Six weeks of 90-minute writing workshops to help you bring your children’s story to life
Start Writing for Children is an introductory six week writing course for anyone interested in writing for children. Whether you’re starting from scratch or already have an idea for a children’s book, you’ll work with middle grade author Karon Alderman to think about how to bring your story to life.

About the workshop facilitator
Karon Alderman lives and works in Newcastle as a teacher at an FE college. In 2022 she won the Hachette prize for children’s fiction, which led to the publication of Dark Flood in July 2024. Some of her short stories for adults have been published in Litro Magazine, Crayon Magazine, and LISPA anthology 2024. Others have appeared in literary magazines including Gutter and Under the Radar. She’s written for Mslexia Magazine (2017) and has won awards for children’s fiction. She is part of the Gosforth Writers group.
