Durham Book Festival Reviewers in Residence 2020

Posted by

Apply now for Reviewers in Residence – New Writing North’s journalism programme for young writers aged 15–23.

Each year, New Writing North recruits a team of young writers to be our Reviewers in Residence at the Durham Book Festival. Our writers receive a press-pass for author events and have their reviews published on the official DBF blog, as well as the chance to take part in our journalism boot-camp, led by professionals from the industry.

If you’re interested in literature and/or pursuing a career in journalism, this is the perfect opportunity for you.

We’re having to do things differently this year, as the entire Durham programme will be taking place online. This means that instead of attending events in person, we’ll give you exclusive preview access to author events, to allow you to upload your reviews in time for the official public release. And don’t worry – there will still be the opportunity to interview a range of amazing writers, as well as an invite to our journalism boot-camp via Zoom.

If you’d like to take part this year, there is a simple application form to complete. We are looking for a team of six writers.

Application Criteria:

You must be aged 15–23, and live, study or work in the North of England.

You must be able and available to access online events and submit reviews in written/vlog format between 6th and 18th October.

You must be available to attend a journalism workshop on Zoom on Saturday 3rd October, between 10:30 and 15:00.

The application deadline is Friday 18th September.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome by Friday 25th September.
