Our journalism programme for writers aged 15-23.

At a glance

What is it?

Each year we recruit a team of young writers’ to be our Reviewers in Residence at the Durham Book Festival. Writers’ receive a press-pass for author events and have their reviews published on the official DBF blog. In addition to behind the scenes access to the Festival the programme offers you the chance to take part in our journalism bootcamp, led by by media professionals and designed to improve your feature writing, vlogging, podcasting and interviewing skills.

Why should I get involved?

It’s an unmissable opportunity to see how a book festival runs, meet and interview big-name authors, improve your journalism skills and do some networking with industry professionals. Regardless of your experience, if you’re interested in journalism, broadcasting, publishing or editing this programme is for you.

How can I apply?

To take part you need to be aged 15-23 and have easy access to Durham for the duration of the Durham Book Festival.

The next Reviewers in Residence programme will take place in early October 2019. Applications for next year’s programme will open in August 2019. Check back on this page or subscribe to the Young Writers’ newsletter for up-to-date information.
