Young Writers’ Groups

Whether you’re a seasoned poet, an emerging songwriter, or want to give creative writing a go for the first time, there’s a Young Writers’ Group for you.

Our Young Writers’ Groups meet weekly in term time in Amble, Cramlington, Gateshead, Newcastle, South Shields, and Sunderland, as well as a Young Songwriters’ Group in the west end of Newcastle. They give young people the opportunity to meet like-minded peers, and work with professional writers and artists to explore different genres, styles and forms of creative writing.

We host Summer Schools, trips and other one-off projects, so you can get involved in our Young Writers’ programme the whole year round.

The groups are completely FREE and open to everyone. So if you’re aged between 12-19, get yourself down to one of the hubs listed below and give it a go.

If you are new to our groups, let us know you’re interested using this link.

Our Young Writers’ Groups are suspended for the autumn term due to ongoing social distancing restrictions. Instead, you can get involved online by signing up to weekly creative writing workshops on Zoom and networking with other young writers on our Discord server.

If you are already a member of NWN Young Writers you will receive regular emails keeping you up to date with our opportunities. If you’re interested in joining us, please email youngwriters@newwritingnorth.com for further information.
