Young Writers’ Groups

Whether you’re a seasoned poet, an emerging songwriter, or want to give creative writing a go for the first time, there’s a Young Writers’ Group for you.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, our Young Writers’ Groups are not currently able to meet in person. Instead, we run a weekly online writing group for young people, every Saturday morning during term-time.

Our Zoom sessions are free, and are open to any young person in the North, aged 12-19, who would like to try creative writing in a fun and relaxed environment. They take place from 11am-12pm, and sign-up is weekly via email.

Sessions are facilitated by our team of Group Leaders and New Writing North staff and cover a range of writing styles and activities. We also host Summer Schools and other one-off projects, so you can get involved in our Young Writers’ programme the whole year round.

Alongside our Young Writers’ group, we also offer two online groups for budding songwriters. You don’t need to play an instrument or have tried songwriting before – beginners are always welcome.

Monday 4-5pm led by songwriter Jennie Brewis. This group is for young people aged 11-14.

Wednesday 5-6pm led by musician Liz Corney and rapper Kema Kay. This group is open to young people aged 15-19.

If you would like to join in with any of our Zoom sessions, please complete our sign-up form here.
