Please note: this group is currently suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions. For information about our online group, please click here.

Nunsmoor Centre, 5AH, Studley Terrace, Newcastle upon Tyne

Wednesdays in term-time, 5pm-7pm

Who is it for?

Young people aged 12-19. No songwriting experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.

The group meets on Wednesday evenings during term-time at the Nunsmoor Centre in the west end of Newcastle. You’ll work with songwriter, rapper, playwright and actor Kema Kay to write lyrics, work on your performance skills and learn about the process of creating music.

It’s a super relaxed and supportive group, with opportunities to perform, record your tracks and collaborate with other young writers. Our group is attended by songwriters, singers, rappers and instrumentalists, making music across lots of different genres and styles.

Get in touch if you’d like some more info or drop in if you’d like to give it a go.  If you are new to our groups, let us know you’re interested using this link.

Meet the team

Group Leader: Emily Wiseman

There are so many parts of my work that I love, it’s hard to choose… I am particularly interested in the arts as social action. When I witness the work and the words of my students inspiring the hearts and minds of an audience and propelling social change – that takes some beating! But that’s the glory moment, the winning goal against the other team in a derby match. I also love all the day-to-day training and development that it takes to get to that point.

Lead Writer: Kema Kay
