Newcastle Young Writers

Note for the time being: This group has been merged with Gateshead Young Writers due to venue availability. This may change in the coming weeks if we are able to return to libraries.


When?

Saturdays 11am-1pm
Current term dates: 12, 19, 26 June and 3, 10, 17 July 2021

Meeting point address: In front of Newcastle City Library, 33 New Bridge Street West, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8AX

Session address: Garden, New Writing North, 3 Ellison Terrace, Ellison Place, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 8ST

Please meet Group Leaders Zoe Murtagh, Lauren Vevers and Heather Askwith outside of Newcastle City Library. They will wait until 10 past, and then walk with the group to the New Writing North garden on Ellison Place (5 minutes walk).

Please note, this session will be taking place outdoors and there is no access to toilets or drinking water so please bring water with you. The nearest toilets are in Eldon Square. In the event of bad weather we will contact you via telephone by 10am to cancel the session.

We will use attendance registers and the contact information we hold on our registration purposes to comply with Track and Trace requirements.

Who is it for?

Young people aged 12-19. No writing experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.

Newcastle Young Writers’ Group is an extremely inclusive and welcoming group. Led by Group Leader Zoe Murtagh, the group has worked with a ton of different writers and had creative writing masterclasses exploring stand-up comedy, scriptwriting, zine-making and dark fiction.

Group Leader: Zoe Murtagh

Zoe is a performer, poet and playwright based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her work is vibrant and interactive, creating playful disruptions to everyday life. Inspired by music that makes you tingle, science lessons and Kate Bush’s dancing, she creates performances and short stories that are fun, insightful and may even put a little bit of fire in your belly.
