Patrick Robertson wins People’s Play Award

Posted by

We are pleased to announce the winner of the People’s Play is Patrick Robertson’s play, In My Father’s House.

When Adam returns home for his father’s funeral, the atmosphere is tense with his religious mother, his sister Sophie and Adam’s partner Ben trying to help build bridges. Relationships are tested and painful past memories revisited. This play explores our assumptions about ‘right and wrong’, and questions our beliefs about family and unconditional love.

The People’s Play Award is a biennial competition run by The People’s Theatre and New Writing North to find an exciting new play by an emerging North East playwright

Winning the People’s Play Award is a great first step to establishing a career as a professional writer. Former winners who have gone on to write professionally include Peter Straughan (who won a Bafta Award and was nominated for an Oscar for his screenplay of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), Carina Rodney and Alison Carr.
