Are you aged 12–19 and living or attending school in Gateshead?
Would you like to perform your work at BALTIC and be in with a chance of winning fantastic prizes?
Entries are open until 10th January for our Inside/Outside competition. We are looking for talented young writers in Gateshead to perform at our special showcase event on 20th January 2020 at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
The best poem from among the finalists will be made into a short film, and the winning writer will receive a £100 cash prize and mentoring sessions with a poet.
Entries should be inspired by the theme Inside/Outside, and should be no more than two minutes in length when read aloud.

Please note: in order to be eligible to win, you must be available in the evening of 20th January 2020. If you are under 16, you must have your parent’s permission to enter.
About Inside/Outside:
Inside/Outside is a special celebratory performance to mark one year of New Writing North’s Gateshead Young Writers programme. You are warmly invited to join us for a unique evening showcasing the next generation of talent in our region.
On 20th January 2020, young people from across New Writing North’s community and schools programmes will come together to share their creative work in the impressive surroundings of BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
Sixth form students from Grace College have helped to curate the show, which will feature short films made on the Beacon Lough Estate in Gateshead and Kelvin Grove Primary School in Bensham; poetry performances from NWN’s Young Writers’ City partners, Grace College and Kingsmeadow Community School; and music and spoken word from our Young Writers’ groups across the region.
Inside/Outside is an opportunity to celebrate the scope of our young people’s brilliant work, and to be inspired, challenged, and moved by the force of their creativity. Please join us for a drinks reception at 6pm followed by performances from 6:30pm.
