Dr Caroline Murphy
Over the past 25 years Caroline has held a variety of leadership roles in the cultural sector, focussing on strategic and business planning, equality and diversity, cross sector partnerships, audience engagement and impact assessment.

David Roche
David Roche has worked in both retail and publishing as CEO of Borders and Books etc. and as Group Sales and Marketing Director of HarperCollins. Prior to these roles he was Product Director at both Waterstones and HMV.

Kathryn Tann
Kathryn joined New Writing North in September 2021 as Digital Production Manager, before moving into the role of Content and Programme Producer in autumn 2022. She is also a writer of fiction and non-fiction, with her first essay collection forthcoming in 2024.

Laura Fraine
Laura Fraine looks after everything marketing, media and social media for New Writing North and its associated projects, including Durham Book Festival, Northern Writers’ Awards, Read Regional, Mayfly and The Gordon Burn Prize.

Carys Vickers
Carys moved into the newly created Marketing and Communications Officer role in March 2023, after previously working with New Writing North as Digital Marketing Intern in 2021 and Finance and Operations Assistant in 2022. She coordinates social media and newsletters and provides marketing support across NWN's programmes. She has a BA in American Studies from Northumbria University.

Phaedra Andrew
Phaedra joined New Writing North in September 2021 as Senior Manager, Finance and Operations. She has 35 years’ experience working in Finance in the private retail and lettings sectors, the last six and a half years being in the education sector.

Emma Wallace
Emma joined New Writing North in September 2021 as Programme Manager (Participation & Young People). She has worked in widening participation across the North East, facilitating classroom sessions and organising events for underrepresented young people.

Tess Denman-Cleaver
Tess is Programme Manager (Participation & Young People) at New Writing North. She joined the organisation in 2021, having previously worked as a freelance programmer and artist as well as Producer of the Women Artists of the North East Library and Producer (Artists’ Moving Image) at Tyneside Cinema.
