New Writing North secures £235,000 Catalyst Award

Posted by

We were delighted to learn today (17 May) that we, along with 11 other arts organisations in the North East and many more nationally, have been granted Catalyst funding from Arts Council England. This three-year funding programme will allow New Writing North to invest in our capacity to fundraise and to attract new income, and then to match-fund the donations and grants from trusts and foundations, individuals and corporate bodies over the next three years. The fund was set up to challenge organisations to seek out new sources of funding – especially in the areas of individual giving and corporate donations.

Our fundraising strategy is based on increasing resources in three areas of our work: the Northern Writers’ Awards, our Cuckoo Young Writers’ programmes, and events and festivals. Claire Malcolm, chief executive of New Writing North, said:

‘This is such a boost for New Writing North and the support could not have come at a more exciting time. Our portfolio of work is growing significantly over the next three years and this support will allow us to maximise the funds we can offer directly to writers and to support grassroots activities and new commissions. Increased resources via the Catalyst fund will allow us to do more and to reach more writers and readers across the North. I’m particularly excited about how this new funding can support our work with young people across the region and how it will enable new supporters to invest in projects such as the Northern Writers’ Awards, which we will be re-launching later this year.’
