27 writers recognised at Northern Writers’ Awards 2021

Posted by

We are delighted to announce the 27 brilliant writers who have been recognised in this year’s Northern Writers’ Awards and between them share £47,000 worth of awards.

With almost 2000 entries, this was the biggest year ever for the awards programme. We want to extend our warmest thanks to everyone who entered. It is absolutely wonderful to see such a wealth of writing talent in the North of England and please know that we would have awarded many more of you if we could have. It is even more amazing considering this work was written in such a difficult year. We are in awe of you all!

We are also grateful to the many supporters and partners of the Northern Writers’ Awards, without whom none of this would be possible. Our major partners include Northumbria University, Arts Council England, Channel 4, Hachette Children’s Group and University of York.

Special thanks to the individual donors who bring so much to the awards programme, including the Hale family, the friends and family of Andrea Badenoch, and the Chaplin family. If you would like to donate to support writing from the North, you can do so here.

Finally, thank you to this year’s judges including Andrew McMillan, Cathy Rentzenbrink and Jacob Ross, and our reading team. Their care, attention and insight is at the heart of the awards programme.
