Brown Girls Write
Running from 2022–2025, Brown Girls Write was a free and accessible writing group for all women of colour, 16yrs+, interested in nurturing their creative writing skills or wanting to give writing a go. It was an opportunity to try different types of writing and develop your own artistic voice. It was a place where women could come together to share ideas, develop their creative practice and produce new artistic work.
Brown Girls Write provided a safe space and supportive platform for group members to gain skills, try new creative activities, develop social bonds and pursue creative and professional development opportunities.
In 2025 Brown Girls Write became self-led collective Neela Moon.
Brown Girls Write was a programme created by Creative Associate Sharmin Islam drawing on her own experiences as a South Asian woman pursuing a career in the arts.
