Programme Manager (Festivals and Events)

Helena joined New Writing North in February 2024 as Programme Manager (Festivals and Events) supporting the programming and delivery of Durham Book Festival, the developing programme of literary events in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and the annual Gordon Burn Prize. Helena also manages the Northern Bookshelf Live programme enabling libraries around the North to programme events with a curated list of authors currently living and working in the region.

Previously, Helena worked as a bookseller at award-winning independent bookshop Forum Books, and produced Alnwick Story Fest. She has an MA in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, and a Postgraduate Master’s in Broadcast Journalism with an NCTJ from the University of Salford.
