Our Partnership with Newcastle University

We’re very proud to have created the Climate Writer in Residence project in association with the university in 2019 in response to the Climate Crisis and our shared declarations of a Climate Emergency. Work will continue with this project into 2021 building on our shared interest in the role of creative practitioners in climate communications and understanding in the run up to COP26 in November 2021.

New Writing North works closely with the university as part of the Newcastle Partnership for Literature, a group of organisations and stakeholders with a shared interest in reading and writing that have come together to ask what we could collectively do for our city, especially in relation to literacy and place-making.

The Robinson Library that houses the Sid Chaplin Archive also supports our Sid Chaplin Award for Working Class writers enabling a meaningful connection between the past and future of new writing in the region.
