Apply now for Significant Ink professional development programme – Middlesbrough

Posted by

Significant Ink is a New Writing North professional development programme, which supports writers for television from groups currently under-represented in the industry. We are looking to identify and develop screenwriters or aspiring screenwriters from BAME, disabled, LGBT+ or working class backgrounds.

The current programme is based in Middlesbrough. We have been running taster sessions in the city and are now inviting applications to the Significant Ink professional development programme, which will take place at Middlesbrough Central Library, 1-4pm, on the following dates:

Saturday 26 August
Saturday 2 September
Saturday 9 September
Saturday 16 September
Saturday 23 September

Screenwriters-in-Residence Chris Neilan and Danielle Jawando will run the programme, which will support participants to develop a half hour script for TV. The sessions will focus on developing character, dramatic action, dialogue, plot and structure. There will also be guest speaks from the TV industry.

You do not have to have had any experience of writing, but you do need to show potential. Writing believable dialogue is key to good television writing, so we are looking for people with this ability.

Applicants need to submit:

  • 2 – 5 pages of dialogue
  • A paragraph which contextualizes the script
  • A paragraph explaining how you fit within a group whose voice is currently under-represented in television.

The programme is free to take part in. Anyone can apply to the programme as long as they come from one of the under-represented groups listed above and can make all the sessions.

Please submit your application by midday on Tuesday 18 July. Apply here
