Cuckoo Young Writers prize fund raises over £1,500 in one night

Posted by

On Tuesday evening, at the Northern Writers’ Awards 2013 ceremony, New Writing North programme director Anna Disley launched the fundraising for the inaugural Cuckoo Young Writers prize for writers aged 14-18, which we plan to run in conjunction with the 2014 Northern Writers’ Awards.

Anna introduced two of the current generation of Cuckoo Young Writers to read from their work – Lewis Brown and Hazel Atkinson – and then asked if those attending the awards would be kind and generous enough to pledge to support the Cuckoo Young Writers prize.

We are delighted to announce that £1,300 was pledged on the night – which, when we count the Gift Aid that we’re able to claim back on the donations, means the total raised is already £1,560.

This amazing start to the fundraising sets the prize fund well on its way to being able to nurture, celebrate and profile talented young writers from across the North in the coming years.

Thank you so much to everyone who pledged their support to the Cuckoo Young Writers programme. Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a huge difference to what we’re able to offer the young writers to develop their writing ambitions.

If you too would like to make a donation, you can do so at https://mydonate.bt.com/events/cuckooprize/100329 Please remember to tick the Gift Aid box if you’re a UK taxpayer so that the donation is worth even more, at no extra cost to you.
