In this ground-breaking book of prose, Belgian author Charlotte Van den Broeck goes in search of buildings that were fatal for their architects – architects who either killed themselves or are rumoured to have done so. From a 17th century church with a twisted spire in France, to a sinking swimming pool in her own hometown of Turnhout, these stories weave together art, history, popular culture and personal experience.
Charlotte Van de Broeck’s two prize-winning poetry collections were published by Bloodaxe Books. Her non-fiction debut Bold Ventures (translated by David McKay) was a Dutch bestseller, winning numerous awards.
