Six weeks of 90-minute writing workshops to help you start writing for the screen
Start Screenwriting is an introductory six week writing course for those interested in trying screenwriting for the first time or transferring their skills from prose or theatre writing. You’ll work with writer and performer Chess Tomlinson to learn more about writing for the screen. Throughout the course you will experiment with genre and build towards a final written scene.

About the workshop facilitator
Chess Tomlinson is a Geordie writer/performer who trained at RCS in Glasgow and is currently based in Gateshead. They received their first commission as a writer to be one of BBC Comedy’s Laugh Lessons 2021 writer/performers, filming Becoming a Karen produced by Storymade and NECHH, this was then nominated for an RTS Comedy and Entertainment award 2022 but didn’t win and got drunk. Chess has projects in development with established and indie production companies and is recipient of DYCP ACE, Screen Skills, Open Horizons and Comedy 50:50 bursaries.
