Sunderland New Screenwriters
Sunderland New Screenwriters offers a range of workshops to people in and around Sunderland who are new to TV writing. Programmed in partnership with Culture House Sunderland, as part of a programme of taster activities in advance of the new Sunderland venue opening next autumn.
Screenwriting taster sessions
From November to January, we’re bringing open access taster sessions to libraries in and around Sunderland, for anyone to learn about writing scripts for TV. No writing experience needed! Session attendees will then be invited to apply for a specialist workshop programme taking place in early 2025.

Industry workshop programme
Eight writers will be selected to take part in a series of free Writing for Television workshops between February and March 2025. There will be six industry workshops and two online industry masterclasses.
If you are new to writing for television, live in or close to Sunderland and are from a background under-represented in writing for television, then this programme will help you to develop your creative skills and enhance your knowledge of the sector. By the end of the programme, you will be encouraged to have written a 10-page spec script.
Writers will also be given free tickets to New Writing North’s Screenwriting Weekender, taking place in Newcastle upon Tyne between 31 January and 2 February 2025.
