The Gordon Burn Prize honours the memory of the late Newcastle-born writer Gordon Burn. It celebrates brilliant writing and innovative books that challenge convention, as Gordon’s own writing did. This year’s judges are writers Terri White, Carl Anka, Angela Hui, Sarah Phelps and David Whitehouse.
The winning writer receives a prize of £10,000 and the chance to take a writing retreat at Gordon Burn’s cottage in the Scottish Borders. Past winners have included Benjamin Myers, Denise Mina, David Keenan, Preti Taneja and Kathryn Scanlan.
Please note that some of the books discussed at this event contain traumatic themes.
The Gordon Burn Prize is run in partnership by New Writing North, Faber & Faber and the Gordon Burn Trust, with sponsorship from Newcastle University. Find out more at gordonburnprize.com.
