Sign up for World Writes

World Writes is a multilingual creative writing group for people aged 16+ who speak English as another language.

Facilitated by Mymona Bibi, the group supports multilingual writers to create great art, decentre the English language, champion marginalised voices and build safer creative spaces for migrants, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers.

We welcome English speakers of all levels to express themselves in their mother tongue and explore the creative possibilities of connecting different native languages and English.

World Writes has produced a publication which explores how language interacts with body, place, shape and sounds. Read World Writes 2025 here.

The group shared their work at West End Writes Spring celebration event in May 2025.

Masterclass with Sulaiman Addonia

On 14 October 2-4pm, author Sulaiman Addonia will be delivering a masterclass in place of our usual World Writes session.

Sulaiman is an Ethiopian-Eritrean novelist and founder of the Creative Writing Academy for Refugees & Asylum Seekers and the Asmara-Addis Literary Festival In Exile. As a child, he lived in refugee camps in Sudan (the setting of his second novel Silence is My Mother Tongue) and Saudi Arabia (the setting of his debut novel The Consequences of Love) before coming to London as an unaccompanied minor in 1990 (the setting of his most recent novel, The Seers).
