Sounds of the Summer

New Writing North’s free summer programmes are for young people aged 11-19 to try fun writing projects, meet like-minded people and make something new in a relaxed, friendly and inclusive environment.

Whatever your taste in music – Swift or Raye, Sheeran or Stormzy – come and take part in Sounds of the Summer. Over three days, you’ll work as a group with professional writers and musicians to explore the art of songwriting. Learn how to write great lyrics, explore song structure and different musical styles, and then write and record your own ballad or banger!

No previous experience or musical skill is required, just a willingness to work together, drop a beat, and try something new!

Donations

Tickets are free! But if you can, please consider donating to the charity when booking your ticket. With support from people like you, we can help to cover the costs of providing free creative writing programmes for children and young people. These run throughout the year, often in disadvantaged areas where there are fewer opportunities.

We work to help these young people to realise their potential. We develop skills, nurture talent, and encourage them to have a go at creative writing. We create environments where young writers can make friends, boost their confidence, try out new things, and have fun!

Our suggested donation is £25, but anything you can give will make a big difference. Thank you.
