Flow writing commission

Posted by

Flow, a floating building on the River Tyne that generates its own power using a tidal waterwheel, is working with Dr Viccy Adams from the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts at Newcastle University and engineers Buro Happold to commission three writers to produce original work inspired by the engineering behind Flow. Budget: £200 per commission.

In order to apply, you must attend an event on 22 June 2012. Email [email protected] for further details. Applicants should submit a statement detailing their interest in the project and relevant skills and experience (500 words max), a full CV and an estimated budget with approximate figures for how this budget would be spent. Deadline for proposals: 2 July. Please send complete proposals to [email protected]. For additional information please see flowmill.org/engineering/writing.

Flow is also inviting proposals from filmmakers to work with an engineer from Buro Happold over the summer to create a new film about Flow, focussing on these engineering aspects of the project. They are particularly interested in proposals that focus on the role of engineering in the historical development of the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. A regional context which offers an excellent backdrop for the commission, a symbiotic relationship between the River Tyne and local industry, each having a huge impact on the other at different times in recent history. For additional information please see flowmill.org/engineering/film.

There is only one commission available, with a budget of £2000. Applicants should submit a statement detailing their interest in the project and relevant skills and experience (500 words max) including links to at least two previous works, a full CV and an estimated budget with approximate figures for how this budget would be spent. Deadline for proposals: 18 June. Please send complete proposals to [email protected]. The film must be completed for public presentation in August.

For more information about both commissions, contact Nicola Singh at [email protected] or on 07973 982007.
