Free creative writing workshops for under-represented young writers

In partnership with Creative Future, we’re offering FREE creative writing workshops for people who lack opportunities due to mental health issues, disability, identity or other social circumstance.
As part of the Creative Future Writers’ Award, we’re holding free workshops for under-represented young writers (aged 16-25).
Explore approaches to poetry and prose in a fun, supportive environment; get writing and share your work. Suitable for beginners and more established writers. Sessions will alternate between poetry and prose, but each explores something different–come to as many as you like. Be ready to get stuck in!
We are running six workshops at Newcastle Sixth Form College in Newcastle, Thursdays at 4-5.30pm on the following dates:

Tutors
Lucie Brownlee (prose)
Lucie Brownlee is an award-winning writer, researcher, and creative writing tutor. Her memoir, Life After You, is a Sunday Times best seller and was a Richard and Judy Autumn Book Club pick.
Lucie won Northern Writers’ Award for Fiction 2018 for her novel The Song of Annie Chapman. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Newcastle University and was a Teaching Fellow in Creative Writing at Leeds University. She has worked with New Writing North as a lead writer on their Young Writers’ City Project for several years.
Kris Johnson (poetry)
Kris Johnson is a writer of poetry and essays with interests in gender and the environment. She holds a PhD in Creative Writing from Newcastle University, and in 2019 was awarded a Developing Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England for The Vast Kingdom of Nowhere, an experimental memoir. She has published in journals and anthologies including Hallelujah for 50ft Women (Bloodaxe), Ambit, Poetry London and The Rialto. She currently works as researcher on a text-led public art project in Darlington and teaches on the MA in Creative Writing at Newcastle University.
