Gladio chosen as North Tyneside Summer Read

Posted by

Whitley Bay writer Steve Chambers’ novel, Gladio: We Can Neither Confirm nor Deny, has been announced as the North Tyne Summer Read for 2014.

Steve is an established playwright for both screen and radio, having written for Casualty and Byker Grove, and is co-writer of the long-running HighLites on BBC Radio 4. Gladio is his first novel and is a fast-moving and complex thriller based on a real-life conspiracy.

The Summer Read project is run by North Tyneside Council in partnership with New Writing North. Councillor Eddie Darke, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “We’re delighted to be once again working with New Writing North to promote local writing; and to give the people of North Tyneside the chance to discover new authors. Gladio is a great choice for a summer read and we’re sure local booklovers will agree.”

The Summer Read campaign culminates in an author event on 2 October at Whitley Bay Customer First Centre at 7pm, when Steve will be interviewed about his book and be available to sign copies.

From June until September, residents and visitors to the borough can pick up a copy of Gladio for the special price of just £4 from the Customer First Centres at North Shields, Whitley Bay, Wallsend and White Swan Centre in Killingworth; as well as from the North Tyneside Council headquarters on Cobalt Business Park.

Previous Summer Reads have showcased authors Carolyn Jess-Cooke, Dan Smith, Mari Hannah and Rebecca Muddiman.
