The People’s Landscape on the Durham Coast: Phoebe Power and Katrina Porteous
In 2019 Durham Book Festival in partnership with the National Trust, commissioned the poets Phoebe Power and Katrina Porteous to undertake a writing residency exploring a stretch of the Durham Coastline between Seaham and Horden. This area was once both home to one of the biggest coalmines and suffered some of the worst pollution in Europe. The landscape was transformed by a massive clean-up project 20 years ago.
