NWN launches spring/summer programme

Posted by

We’re full of the joys of spring this week, and have just launched our new season programme, which heralds the arrival of some great books by regional authors, including exciting new novels from Richard Milward, Carolyn Jess-Cooke and Dan Smith, and a debut from Mari Hannah. We’re also very proud to be launching a new international award in memory of the writer Gordon Burn.

We are supporting a new play by Fiona Evans, Geordie Sinatra, at Live Theatre, which takes on the underexplored subject of dementia. Alongside the play, we have produced a programme of author residencies in care homes across the region and at a special event will be examining the role writing has in this context.

We’ll also be celebrating the renovation of Tynemouth’s Metro station with the publication of Platform, a new book of stories commissioned to mark the official opening in June.

Inside the programme, which will be available in hard copy in venues across the region, but which you can also view online here or download from the link below, you can also find out more about other New Writing North projects, such as the Cuckoo young writers’ programme, which now encompasses activities in Newcastle, Hexham, Durham and South Shields; our awards programmes; and Read Regional, our newly expanded book promotion project.

Many of the events are free to attend and we hope you’ll find the time to support local authors this spring and summer.
