Writing from Home

New Writing North runs a year-round programme for young people and community groups, which is all about bringing people together though creative writing groups in schools, libraries and their local community centres.

In these extraordinary times, we are encouraging people to stay in and write from home instead.

Writing can help us to make sense of the world. It can stand as a record of these strange days we are living through. It can heal. It can be a distraction and a pleasure. And it can take you far away, even when you’re stuck at home.

Writing prompts

Grab your notebook or laptop and join us. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday we’ll be sharing writing prompts designed by our brilliant team of freelance writers and facilitators. You’ll find them on our social media channels under the hashtag #writingfromhome.

Self-led creative writing workshops for schools

We are developing free self-led creative writing workshops for young people and schools and will be adding to the resources on this page. The workshops below are suitable for students in Key Stages 3-5, please feel free to download them and share them with your school.
