Publishers: put your authors on the map
We are delighted to open the call for publishers and authors to propose books for inclusion in the Read Regional 2015 campaign.
Read Regional works with libraries across the North East and Yorkshire to promote new titles by authors who live and work in the region. The project is delivered in partnership with 19 local authorities and supported by Arts Council England. For the first time, we will be accepting submissions from authors who live anywhere in the greater North (encompassing the North West as well as Yorkshire and the North East).
We have had real success with the campaign, which was launched in 2008 and which we believe to be unique in its scale and scope. As well as hosting around 80 author events at libraries and festivals, we put 2,000 books into libraries, ready for readers to discover fantastic new writing.
Our 2014 campaign launches on 31 January. On that date we also open submissions for our 2015 campaign.
The campaign will feature between 10 and 15 books that will be heavily promoted in spring 2015. Participating libraries purchase bulk orders and receive marketing materials, including a Read Regional booklet featuring author interviews and extracts of their work; reading guides for each title; posters; bookmarks; stickers and postcards.
Books must be published by 1 November 2014 and should be available for us to buy at 50% of the cover price. Authors should be available to undertake at least four events in spring 2015. We will consider fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, and children’s books. Please note that we cannot accept self-published books.
The project is a great way for publishers to launch new authors or for more established authors to build their profiles and extend their readership. We are looking for authors who are keen to work with libraries and to be flexible and enthusiastic about joining in with a variety of events. Previous authors involved with the campaign include Stephen May, Ann Cleeves, Dan Smith and Fiona Shaw. 2014 campaign authors include Melvin Burgess and Gavin Extence.
