Opportunities for young readers and writers aged 13-19

Posted by

Love writing? Would you like some advice on developing your writing, perhaps a bit of inspiration to get started, or feedback on something you are working on? Then New Writing North’s Young Writers Group could be the thing for you. Led by a professional writer, the first session will meet at 11am at Newcastle Central Library on Saturday 29 January. The group will continue to meet every other Saturday throughout the year. You’ll get to meet other young people interested in writing, share your work and give and receive feedback in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. You will also have the opportunity to get one-to-one feedback on your work from a volunteer writing tutor. The group is completely free to join and attend, and we’re hoping to have some of the work published towards the end of the year. There are still a few places left, so get in touch with us at [email protected] with your name, age and contact details, or call Anna or Liv on 0191 233 3850 for more information.

Love reading? Then come and join our book group for young people. This is your chance to meet other young book lovers and chat about books in the relaxed surroundings of Mister Woods Café in Tynemouth. The group will meet every month from Tuesday 8 February, and will be run by writer Carina Rodney. The first book we’ll be discussing is We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, so if you’ve not read it, you have time to get a copy (Tynemouth Library has copies, as well as our partner book shop, Blackwell’s in Newcastle, and other local bookshops). If you’ve already read it, you’ll know how interesting it is and how many questions it throws up – so come along and let everyone know what you think.

All the information including how to sign up is at www.northeastbookgroups.com/tynemouth. It’s free to join and you get a special membership card which will entitle you to other goodies, including £2 off the books at Blackwell’s. For more information about the group and to join, call New Writing North on 0191 233 3850 or email [email protected].
