Read Regional 2016: Submit new books by writers in the North of England

Posted by

Deadline for submissions Monday 4 May 2015

We are delighted to open the call for submissions for books to be considered for the 2016 Read Regional campaign.

Read Regional is run by New Writing North in conjunction with 19 library authorities in Yorkshire and North East England. Each year we select 10-15 new books by Northern authors and promote them widely through libraries and festivals. All participating libraries purchase bulk book orders and receive supporting marketing campaign materials. The authors visit libraries to give readings and to meet book groups. A comprehensive media and social media campaign supports the project.

Read Regional is a great way to launch new authors or to promote authors whose profiles you are looking to build. The campaign has run since 2008 and has supported authors including Stephen May, Ann Cleeves and Mari Hannah. Included on the campaign in 2015 are Bryan and Mary Talbot, Alan Gibbons, Robert Williams and Debbie Taylor.

For the 2016 campaign we welcome submissions of fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, graphic novels, young adult and children’s books.

Books submitted must be by a writer who currently lives and works in the North of England. You can check the region, as defined by Arts Council England, at www.artscouncil.org.uk/who-we-are/working-in-the-regions/. Unfortunately we are unable to accept self-published submissions. We will consider books published between November 2014 and December 2015.

The author must be available to participate in at least four events across the North East and Yorkshire between March and June 2016. Books must be available to us by December 2015. Ideally books will be in paperback; we will consider hardback books only in exceptional circumstances.

For more information on the campaign see www.readregional.com.
