Read Regional author Annabel Pitcher wins Waterstones Children’s Book Prize

Posted by

We were delighted to learn that Annabel Pitcher was last night named both the winner in the teen fiction category and the overall winner of the 2013 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize for her second novel, Ketchup Clouds.

Annabel is one of this year’s Read Regional authors, and has been touring libraries across the North East and Yorkshire since September, talking to readers about her first young adult novel, My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece. She was also shortlisted for the same prize last year with that novel.

Her second novel, Ketchup Clouds, about a young girl confessing to a terrible secret through letters to an inmate on death row, impressed the judges of the award, with Waterstones’s Melissa Cox saying it was "an unsettling yet fantastically fresh and brave take on the teen confessional".

Annabel will be taking part in events across the North East and Yorkshire library network until June, so don’t miss your opportunity to meet this rising literary star. You can find details of all the Read Regional events here.
