Rendezvous: A Celebration of the life and work of Julia Darling

Posted by

Live Theatre is looking for ideas from writers for five specially commissioned 20-minute plays inspired by the work of Julia Darling to mark the tenth anniversary of Julia’s death. The project is an opportunity for the company to work with both emerging and established writers alongside a mix of young and experienced directors.

The plays will rehearse at Live during May 2015 and will be performed in the main theatre from Thursday 28 May to Saturday 6 June.

They are looking for a varied, creative response to an aspect of Julia’s work. This can include the plays she wrote for Live (including The Last Post, Attachments, Venetia love Goes Netting and The Women Who Painted Ships), her poetry collections (including Sudden Collapses in Public Places) or her fiction (including Crocodile Soup and The Taxi Driver’s Daughter).

Each play should be up to 20 minutes long with a maximum of five actors in the cast (three female and two male). The fee for the commission will be £750. For further details about Julia and her work, please see www.juliadarling.co.uk.

To apply, in the first instance writers should submit a couple of paragraphs outlining their idea to [email protected] and [email protected]. The initial deadline is 9 January 2015 at 5pm. A decision about which ideas will be commissioned will be made by 16 January 2015 at 5pm.
