Programme Manager (Festivals and Events)

Helena joined New Writing North in February 2024 as Programme Manager (Festivals and Events) supporting the delivery of the Durham Book Festival, the developing programme of literary events in Newcastle Upon Tyne, and the annual Gordon Burn Prize. Helena will be working with ten Northern writers to bring high-quality events to libraries across the North for New Writing North’s series of Northern Bookshelf Live events.

Previously, Helena worked for the award-winning independent bookshop Forum Books, and as project coordinator for Alnwick Story Fest. She completed an MA in English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, and a Postgraduate Master’s in Broadcast Journalism with an NCTJ from the University of Salford.
