Michael Holroyd: 2005

Michael Holroyd was born in 1935. His biographies include works about Hugh Kingsmill, Augustus John, George Bernard Shaw and Lytton Strachey. He is also the author of two memoirs concerning his family history: Basil Street Blues and Mosaic. Michael Holroyd is the president emeritus of the Royal Society of Literature and a past chairman of the Society of Authors. He was awarded the CBE in 1989 and was knighted in 2007. A Strange Eventful History won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for biography in 2009. He lives in London.
