The Other Side of Me: A Workshop for Dancers and Writers

This artistic development day for emerging and experienced dance practitioners and creative writers offers insights into traditional and contemporary Indigenous Australian culture and dance practice, and an opportunity to explore relationships between literary narrative and dance techniques.
You will be guided in finding ways to express emotions and moods through written words and movement.
Plan for the Day
Morning session: 11am-1pm
Coffee and tea on arrival
Introduction to Indigenous dance practice and beliefs
The group will then divide into two separate writing and dance workshops
1. Gary Lang: Indigenous dance/movement class
2. Laura Fish: Exploring how to express emotions connected with space, place, confinement and displacement
Lunch break: 1 pm – 2.15pm
Please bring your own lunch
Afternoon session: 2.15pm-4pm
Working in small groups, the dancers and writers will be guided through a process to create a short piece to be shared at the end of the day.
