The Writing Room: Spoken word workshops for young writers
Posted by
Have you got something to say? Fancy turning your writing into performance? Inspired by Kate Tempest or Hollie McNish? Join The Writing Room.
Cuckoo Young Writers is joining up with spoken word extraordinaires Apples and Snakes North East to offer young writers or performers in Sunderland (and beyond) the chance to develop their spoken word over the summer. The Writing Room will give young writers/performers aged 15-21 the chance to work with a number of well-established spoken word artists, who will challenge, encourage and inspire your writing, and get you performing! And at the end of the sessions you’ll have the chance to appear at Sunderland’s finest spoken word events – King Ink at Pop Recs and Jibba Jabba at Independent!
We’re looking for young people aged 15-21 who can attend at least four of the following sessions. We welcome both young people with experience of performing and those who want to try it out!
Saturday 25 July
Introduction and Generating Writing with Carmen Thompson
Saturday 1 August
Finding Poetry in the Everyday with Asa J Maddison
Saturday 8 August
Finding Your Voice with Sky Hawkins
Saturday 15 August
Drafting and Editing with Catherine Ayres
Saturday 22 August

Sessions will be held in Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, except the final session which will be held at Independent on Holmeside, Sunderland.
