Young Writers’ Summer: Write Outside

Posted by

Summer 2020 looks a little different to normal, but we’re excited to launch our Write Outside virtual summer programme for young people!

Led by poet Bob Beagrie, writer Lucie Brownlee and theatre maker Ruth Johnson, Write Outside is inspired by New Writing North’s wider climate change programme. We want to encourage you to write about the world around you (whether that’s an urban street or isolated countryside), to appreciate nature and to see how it can inspire your writing! You will be able to explore different themes and writing techniques each week across poetry, fiction and script-writing, building towards an opportunity to publicly share your work at the end of the summer.

Starting on Monday 20 July and running for six weeks, Write Outside is designed to be flexible to fit around your summer plans, so you can pick and choose your activities and write as much or as little as you want across the summer holidays. You will have the opportunity to join weekly Zoom workshops on Saturdays to meet other young writers and get feedback on your developing work.

Write Outside is a fantastic opportunity for young writers across the north to come together, so we would love to see you there! Please complete the registration form with a parent or guardian here if you would like to take part. If you have any questions about the programme you can contact us on [email protected]. Full details of the programme will be available on our website from Monday 6 July.

(And for those of you interested in songwriting, don’t despair – we’re also planning a Young Songwriters Summer programme, more information coming soon! Keep an eye on our website and social media for further details.)
